The mayor of Alghero, Raimondo Cacciotto , today sent a formal request to the Ministry of the Interior , Department of Public Security, to obtain a strengthening of the staff of the city police station.
"I echo the concerns of the police unions," explains Cacciotto, "who have long been calling for an increase in staffing. The current staffing, just over 30, is not proportionate to the complexity of the territory to be covered , which includes urban centers, rural areas, coastlines, and strategic infrastructure such as the Riviera del Corallo International Airport and the tourist-commercial port."
The mayor recalls that the Alghero Police Station is the point of reference for the entire northwestern part of the province of Sassari, but suffers from a "structural understaffing" that has worsened over the years due to the progressive reduction in human and material resources.
"Alghero has 42,000 inhabitants but hosts over a million and a half tourists each year," he adds, "with summer peaks that multiply attendance and further complicate the social and economic landscape. This is why I'm calling for a stable and structural increase in staffing."
At the same time, the municipal administration confirms its commitment to strengthening the local police force, to ensure "a territorial and legal protection that is ever closer to citizens."
"I trust," the mayor concluded, "that the institutions will appreciate the seriousness and urgency of this request, in the interests of collective security and the strategic role Alghero plays in northwestern Sardinia."
