He is only 19 years old but is already a veteran of foreign crossings. For Alberto Murgia from Villacidre , it matters little whether it involves experiencing the world on his bike or on foot: the call to discovery and adventure is stronger than any obstacle. From the first ascents to Gennargentu and Supramonte, passing through the walking tours between Corsica and Norway in 2022 .
His is a real passion, in close contact with nature, which has now turned into a more ambitious and stimulating journey. Having left the island last October, he reached Norway again, after crossing Italy, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Denmark on his bike. Objective: to reach the North Cape before making the reverse journey home, where he plans to return in the spring.
«I have always been involved in trekking and climbing – says Murgia – for me it was an almost physiological path that led me to approach the gears. I don't want to challenge nature but to learn from it and appreciate it in all its thousand facets . By going around on foot or by bike I can grasp aspects that wouldn't emerge in a car."
And about the new trip to Norway he says: «A wonderful land, to which I feel deeply connected. I had already visited it albeit on a smaller scale, arriving there by train and then moving on foot. This time I wanted to surpass myself by moving from home independently."
Fundamental, a lot of study and training : «Behind these crossings there is no improvisation – adds Murgia – but months of entire assessments and physical preparation . I do everything with my own strength and small savings. No sponsors or big costs. The world can also be discovered in a sustainable and low-cost way ."
And in the luggage brought from Villacidro to Northern Europe there is all the essentials: «Clothing resistant to polar temperatures. I am currently in the mountains of southern Norway, where it is -3 degrees. We can say that it's hot (laughs) if we consider that in recent days it has reached -20. As soon as I left I also had some Sardinian products with me which I consumed along the way. Now I use the raw materials I find locally ."
A journey that is told daily on social media: "Every day I try to upload content that tells everyone about my experience, from photos to videos, when the connection allows me to do so." And about his family he says: «I hear from my loved ones every day. They appreciate my choice and share it, knowing that I am sensitive to ecology, but above all attentive ."
The bond with the Norwegian people is strong: «I found a lot of hospitality. I often sleep in a tent and some villagers seeing me outdoors welcome me into their homes for dinner, lunch or to sleep. It was also nice to meet our fellow countrymen Danilo Dettori and Erika Sechi who, in the town of Gol, hosted me in their pizzeria . We met purely by chance while I was asking for directions in a Facebook group of Italians in Norway."
The conclusion of the trip: «I will arrive at the North Cape around Christmas, where I will appreciate unique scenarios such as the Northern Lights which I will tell everyone about on my channels. I feel strengthened by this experience and I advise all young Sardinians to approach this way of travelling ."
The flag of the four Moors keeps him company: « A faithful traveling company. The symbol of our land, wherever I go I reiterate my pride in being Sardinian and part of a great people ."
