The farmers of Trexenta, like their colleagues in the rest of the island, have been on a war footing for days to protest against the policies of the European Community. However, in a period of severe crisis for the sector, some good news arrives: the green light from the Sardinia Region and the Southern Sardinia Reclamation Consortium to carry out extraordinary maintenance works on the irrigation system of the Trexenta Abc district. In total, over 5 million euros will be spent for 15 kilometers of pipelines: 1.6 million for the first lot (work in the procurement phase) and 3.5 for the second lot.

The realization of the work will allow to improve the hydraulic functioning of the territorial district. The project involves the disposal of the now old and damaged asbestos cement pipes (these are works carried out in the 1960s) and the installation of as many replacement PVC pipes. The construction of new intake works and new road and river crossings is also planned. The Trexenta pipeline is one of the first irrigation pipelines built by the Southern Sardinia Reclamation Consortium. It has aged poorly because it has not received any extraordinary maintenance over time.

«The Region, with this and other financed interventions, wants to give guarantees to farmers and breeders who are experiencing a long period of crisis and who instead deserve greater attention from politics and institutions», underlines the regional councilor Stefano Schirru, president of the Budget council commission.
