An arrest was made in Piazza del Carmine in Cagliari, where a "red zone" was established a few days ago with increased controls to curb urban decay.

Carabinieri officers from the Cagliari Provincial Command's Mobile Radio Unit arrested a 25-year-old Guinean man of no fixed abode and already known to law enforcement.

As officers attempted to identify him, the man resisted, pushing and kicking, causing minor injuries. He was eventually restrained and secured. He is now being held in the Command's holding cells, awaiting trial.

The intervention, the Carabinieri note, "is part of the broader prevention and control activities already carried out in that area of the city, which is particularly sensitive for public safety. It confirms the effectiveness of the recent decisions taken at the Prefecture by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, which—in agreement with the Mayor of Cagliari—decided to establish a pilot zone of enhanced protection in the Piazza del Carmine area, with the aim of ensuring greater security and combating situations of degradation. The constant presence of Carabinieri patrols demonstrates the commitment to ensuring the protection of citizens."
