Stop too many tests on the same day and assignments entered at the last minute by teachers in the electronic register. The Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara lends a hand to students and sides with families by trying to regulate study loads at home and in class. He does so by signing a circular sent to school principals in which he explains how it is «important that the scheduling of tests to be carried out in class, as well as the assignment of homework, are carefully planned by each teacher, also taking care to evaluate what may have already been defined by other teachers, as well as avoiding that they are submitted to the electronic register in the evening for the following day».
Antonello Giannelli, president of the Anp, the National Association of Principals, expresses full agreement: «It is important that the afternoon commitment required of students is constant and that the homework assigned is designed in such a way as to allow a balance between study and other activities that are fundamental for their growth, such as sports, socializing with friends and time spent with family». The Ugl also underlines the importance of school-family collaboration.
Valditara also asks in the circular that homework be written not only in the electronic register but also in the students' personal diary to "allow for increasing autonomy on the part of students in managing their school commitments".
"This circular aims to further strengthen the positive collaboration between family and school, a collaboration that is particularly close to my heart", commented Valditara, underlining the importance "of a more balanced distribution of tests during the week, avoiding that the workloads for students are too condensed and burdensome" also to "ensure a better organization of the time to dedicate to the completion of afternoon homework, especially in conjunction with holidays".
"Minister Valditara did well to intervene with this circular to schools: in this way she also demonstrates her desire to increasingly strengthen the school-family alliance, essential to raise the quality of the school itself", observed Paola Frassinetti, Undersecretary for Education and Merit.
