Born in a girl's body that he didn't feel was his own, at 13 he was the youngest person in Italy to have a sex change with the court's approval .

It happens in La Spezia , the story is told in the Resto del Carlino.

His twin sister was the first to notice his masculinity; his parents accepted him and supported him through his transition. It was natural for them to recognize him as he recognized himself: a boy.

Even as a child, he had expressed discomfort with the feminine name. Specialists at the Andrology and Endocrinology Center at Careggi Hospital recognized gender dysphoria and placed him on a drug therapy based on triptorelin, to suspend development and allow his body to realign with its sense of self.

And now the state also recognizes his name and gender identity. The La Spezia court ordered the rectification of his birth certificate and reassigned the 13-year-old's registered sex . The judges, according to the ruling, considered "the consistently followed psychotherapeutic program, the successful hormone therapies administered, and the mature management of the social distress resulting from the process of change ." The teenager "has developed a full awareness of the incongruence between his body and the experience of his identity as he has experienced it up to now."

Lawyer Stefano Genick, an expert in family law and minority protection, calls the ruling "historic, which recognizes a path of affirmation and is very important given her young age."
