Nomanulhaq Nomanulhaq and Ikram Ijaz, Saman Abbas' cousins, were arrested and taken to prison this morning, after both were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Bologna Court of Assizes of Appeal on April 18 in the trial for the murder of the 18-year-old Pakistani girl in May 2021 in Novellara, in the Lower Reggio Emilia area.

The two were arrested by the Carabinieri of the investigative unit of Reggio Emilia, executing the precautionary custody order issued last May 6 at the request of the Attorney General's Office.

Both were currently at liberty. In the first-degree trial in Reggio Emilia they had been acquitted. In the second-degree trial in Bologna, however, the Court of Assizes of Appeal overturned everything, sentencing them to life imprisonment, which had instead been confirmed for their parents Shabbar Abbas and Nazia Shaheen, already in prison, in addition to the increase in sentence from 14 to 22 years for their uncle Danish Hasnain.
