"A series of mass arrests of minors has never happened before. There are times when it is unfortunately necessary to send these violent minors behind bars. And the juvenile prison system is truly struggling right now. Just yesterday we held a meeting to try to resolve this problem, both by allocating the limited funds we have to expand the capacity of youth prisons and, possibly, to reach agreements so that sections of prisons and penitentiaries intended for adults can instead be used for minors." This was stated by Justice Minister Carlo Nordio in an interview with Start, on Sky Tg24.

Still on the subject of measures to be adopted following the clashes involving young people in Milan, the Minister of Justice stated: "A law banning social media for minors under 14, on a bipartisan basis? We hope Parliament will consider this without having to lower the age of criminal responsibility; this would, for example, be one of the best avenues to pursue."
