The Bologna Public Prosecutor's Office is asking for life imprisonment for all five family members accused - father, mother, uncle and two cousins - for the murder of Saman Abbas , committed on the night between April 30 and May 1, 2021 in Novellara, in the Bassa Reggiana area.
Concluding her closing statement in the appeal trial, Attorney General Silvia Marzocchi asked the Court for a sentence "that restores Saman to the role of victim of an inhuman and barbaric action, carried out in execution of a death sentence by the entire family".
The prosecution therefore supported the existence of the crimes of murder and suppression of a corpse with the aggravating circumstances of premeditation and abject and futile motives , arriving at the request of life imprisonment with one year of daytime isolation for all five of the victim's family members.
In the first instance, the Court of Assizes of Reggio Emilia had sentenced the two parents, Shabbar Abbas and Nazia Shaheen, to life imprisonment, acquitting them of the suppression of the corpse, the uncle Danish Hasnain at 14 years and had acquitted and freed the two cousins, Nomanhulaq Nomnhulaq and Ikram Ijaz.
