Maurizio Tuscano, 58, assistant Chief Coordinator on duty at the Subsection Autostradale Amaro (Udine) was about to retire and died shortly before 7 this morning hit by a car on the A23.

The agent had just finished carrying out the surveys of a rear-end collision (an accident which, explains the Udine Police Headquarters, had been reported) when he was hit by a car near the municipality of Treppo Grande.

On board a young man, who was traveling alone and who would stop to help.
"The umpteenth day that baleful the Police took away a colleague of the Road, yet another, overwhelmed and killed two years after retirement", comments Valter Mazzetti, Secretary General of the State Police Fsp.

"Solidarity" with the police and "condolences" with the family were expressed by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. A "loss that grieves all the policemen who daily work for the safety of the citizens", defined the head of the police, Lamberto Giannini. The Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese, renewed "the thanks to the women and men of all the police forces for the extraordinary commitment and professionalism put in place on a daily basis".

"Women and men in uniform risk their lives every day for our safety. We must never forget that", observed the President of the Senate, Elisabetta Casellati.

Tuscano, born in Thalwil (Switzerland), resided in Moggio Udinese with his 52-year-old wife and 27-year-old son. In 2007 he was awarded the silver medal for service merit, in 2014 the gold medal. He joined the police on 1 June 1989 and had served for over 20 years at the Tolmezzo Traffic Police Detachment (Udine). "It was precisely his experience that led him to fear the motorway, which for us is hell, especially in that section of the A23", concludes Cinzia D'Orlando, provincial secretary of Fsp Udine.
