Child dies in coma after eating contaminated raw milk cheese

Mattia Maestri, the child from Coredo in Trentino, who had been in a permanent vegetative state since 2017, has died after consuming cheese made with raw milk contaminated by the Escherichia coli bacteria .

Father Giovanni Battista Maestri announced the news: «Our Mattia has left us and on his behalf I thank you for having contributed to making his passing less painful», this was the father's message.

A Supreme Court ruling confirmed the causal link, making the convictions for negligent assault of two dairy farm managers irrevocable. The father had also founded a consumer association dedicated to the "risks associated with intrinsically dangerous food products."
