The 15-year-old boy convicted of having reduced Marta Novello to death, the 26-year-old wounded with 23 stab wounds while jogging in March 2021 in a country lane in Morocco in Mogliano Veneto, is free and has already left Italy. in the province of Treviso.

In the young woman, that "absolutely casual" encounter, as confirmed by the attacker himself, left indelible marks: she suffered very serious damage to internal organs and only thanks to several operations she managed to survive. And the latest wound has been inflicted on her in recent days, due to a bureaucratic-administrative mess from which it will be difficult to get out: her attacker is now in London, where he has joined his mother, completely free .

After a psychiatric examination that had confirmed his ability to understand and will, the fifteen-year-old was sentenced in the first instance by the Juvenile Court to six years and eight months of imprisonment. In the courtroom it was reconstructed that he had left the house with the intention of carrying out a robbery to buy drugs and Marta was the unaware victim of his need to quickly find money.

In the second instance, in April last year, the Court of Appeal of Venice had reduced the sentence to five years of imprisonment for attempted murder and attempted robbery, confirming the two-year safety prescription to be served after the prison sentence, at light of its social dangerousness. On 21 July, pending the third degree of trial, the boy was released from prison in Naples due to the expiry of the terms for custody in prison.

He should have been immediately taken to a community far from Treviso, but something went wrong. Nobody notified him of anything when he left his cell. The provision would actually have been issued on 19 July, but allowing time until 20 September to communicate it to the person concerned. But in the meantime the latter had already left Italy, after spending a few days at home.

The boy's lawyer, Matteo Scussat, while "not confirming and not denying what happened" makes it clear, between the lines, that there were all the tools to make the device immediately effective as soon as the 15-year-old got out of prison. Especially since the same defender for more than a year had been asking to know in which community the teenager would be placed.

A story that reopens the wound of Marta's family and leaves her lawyer, Alberto Barbaro, bewildered. "What weighs above all is the frustration for what is experienced - he underlines - as yet another injustice. Will the State - he wonders - be able to bring the aggressor back to Italy so that he can discount that definitive sentence that should have the purpose of recovering him?".
