Sicily, Marche, Liguria and Emilia Romagna shaken a few hours later by several earthquakes , at almost regular intervals, which have aroused fear and alarm among the population with evacuated schools and citizens taken to the streets. And which, however, according to seismologists have no connection between them .

The first occurred during the night in Catania with a magnitude of 2.5, then Acquasparta (Trapani) with a magnitude of 2.1. Finally in Paternò (3.6). Around 7 am another earthquake in Montone, Perugia: two shocks of 2.0 and 2.1 in a matter of seconds. At noon in Ascoli Piceno two different shocks: the first with an intensity of 4.1, the second of 3.6. The shock was also felt in Civitella del Tronto (Teramo).

At 14.18 in the sea in front of Reggio Calabria, at a depth of 55 km, a shock of 3.2. At 15.39 a 4.1, the most violent, in the Genoese area, with a hypocenter 2 km west of Bargagli. A few kilometers from the Ligurian capital, a statue collapsed in front of the church of Pieve Alta, the firefighters of Genoa intervened on about fifteen cases of detachment of plaster. So much fear among the residents.

In the afternoon Modena, 3.8 in intensity, and then again Fosciandora (Lucca). And again in the Aeolian Islands (2.6), Civitella del Tronto (2.0). In total, from 11.51 pm last night, Ingv recorded 21 earthquakes of varying intensity (magnitude from 2.0 to 4.1).

INGV: “NO CONNECTION” - According to experts , earthquakes are too distant to have a connection between them , with totally different dynamics from a geological point of view.

"There is no relationship: the distances between the places where the earthquakes occurred are hundreds of kilometers for there to be a connection", said seismologist Carlo Meletti , of the Pisa section of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv).

"It is curious that after a period of apparent calm there were four earthquakes a little stronger and felt by the population", he added referring to the fact that "in the last three months we have had only one earthquake of magnitude greater than 4 in Italy: in fact, having two major earthquakes on the same day is just a statistical variation.
