This is the terrible violence that an inmate in the Regina Coeli prison in Rome had to endure: the news was reported by Sappe, an autonomous union of the penitentiary police. The perpetrators of the rape are two inmates of Slav origin accused of robbery and other crimes.

The same agents intervened to put an end to the violence. The victim was then transported to the hospital, the man was found to be very seriously injured.

"A shameful and gruesome episode certainly favored by the easing of internal security due to dynamic vigilance", denounces Maurizio Somma, secretary of Sappe Lazio.

Several those that the union defines "wicked" measures of a policy that "does not care". The "open penitentiary regime, with inmates out of cells for at least 8 hours a day with sporadic checks", the "suppression of the sentries who guard the prison walls", the "staff shortages" and the "lack of funding for anti-intrusion and anti-climb-over services ".
