Alberto Balocco , son of the king of panettone Aldo, was struck and killed by lightning in the Assietta area , in Val di Susa, in the Turin area.

The 53-year-old industrialist, owner and CEO of the confectionery company of the same name, was aboard a mountain bike and in the company of his friend Davide Vigo , 55, originally from Turin and resident in Luxembourg.

Both were found dead in the mountains.

The alarm was raised by a passing motorist: a vehicle from the regional helicopter rescue service was sent to the site, which landed with considerable difficulty due to the violent storm that is raging in the area.

Attempts to revive both are useless . Ground teams of the Alpine Rescue and the Carabinieri also intervened to clarify the dynamics of the tragedy.

A little less than two months ago, Aldo Balocco died , the inventor of the famous “Mandorlato” panettone and architect of the growth of the company started by his father in 1927 in Fossano (Cuneo), when he opened a small pastry shop. Alberto Balocco headed the company - 500 employees and a turnover of 200 million in 2022 - with his sister Alessandra.
