His first dream, to return to Italy, has come true. Now Chico Forti, who arrived today from the United States, can't wait to hug his 96-year-old mother again , whom he hasn't seen since 2008.

Forti, a 65-year-old from Trentino, now finds himself in a cell alone in Rebibbia Nuovo Complesso, the Roman prison where he was taken, once taken over by the penitentiary, after his arrival in Pratica di Mare around 11.30. From Monday, he will probably be transferred to the Verona prison to serve his sentence after having been detained in the USA for 24 years.

"I dreamed of this moment every day, it's the reason why I managed to hold on" Forti then said in an interview with Tg1, confessing that he said he was "guilty only because of the extradition" but that he considered himself innocent. «Even in here - referring to the Capitoline prison of Rebibbia he added - it is a positive step. Everything changes: from the staff, the director, the guards who welcomed me, the clothes I wear. For the first time in 24 years I don't have a number on my shirt and I don't have handcuffs, a different atmosphere." But his thoughts now turn to the longed-for meeting with his mother, a meeting which for Forti's lawyer is quite safe. «We will make an application for permission for the prisoner to visit his mother. Denial is not possible" given that it is "a right of all prisoners", says the lawyer Carlo Della Vedova.

Great party for all Chico's friends gathered in the committee A chance for Chico who in all these years has followed the long battle to bring him back to Italy, and from the United States a presence to count on was that of his Sardinian friend, Roberto Fodde ( HERE IS OUR INTERVIEW ).
