Alec Baldwin breaks the silence and speaks for the first time after the dramatic incident on the set of "Rust" , a film in which he is an actor and co-producer.
"We were a very well oiled crew, then this horrible thing," said Baldwin: on October 21, on the set of Santa Fe, with a gun that was not supposed to be loaded, he killed director of photography Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. .
"I am not allowed to comment, because there is an ongoing investigation," he told Fox News reporters. "Halyna was a friend of mine," she added. “A horrible event”, that's why “there should be only plastic weapons on the set. Even if it's not up to me to decide, the experts will. "
THE RECONSTRUCTION - The incident dates back to ten days ago: Baldwin, as the director Souza later explained on the record, was rehearsing a scene with the gun pointed at the camera as foreseen by the script.
In his hand the gun that assistant director David Halls, who gave him the okay to pull the trigger, called "cold", unloaded. But it wasn't like that: the bullet was real and hit Hutchins through the chest. Then he continued his trajectory ending up also injuring Souza, who was smeared in the collarbone.
The young woman collapsed to the ground but was still alert, Souza said. When she got to the hospital she was already dead.
THE INVESTIGATIONS - Baldwin in the course of the first investigations was in fact cleared after Halls (one who had already been kicked out of a production for such an episode in the past) confessed that he had not checked all the bullets of that gun.
An admission of negligence that did not however close the investigation. On that set, the investigators who seized them revealed, there were lots of weapons and lots of ammunition, some even real ones.
"We're trying to figure out how real ammunition got to the set," said Adan Mendoza, the Santa Fe County Sheriff. "At this point we are not ruling out anything - Mary Carmack-Altwies, County Attorney said in an interview with the New York Times - all the hypotheses, even criminal charges, are on the table".
