Anthony Fauci, the infectious disease specialist responsible for the US plan to combat the spread of Covid-19, was found guilty of contempt of Congress by a Senate committee after last week he invoked the Fifth Amendment at least 100 times to avoid answering questions about his role in managing the pandemic.
The motion passed with eight votes in favor and seven against. Fauci now faces criminal investigation.
However, Fauci received a pardon from Joe Biden at the end of his term and is unlikely to be at risk of being found guilty of the crimes he is accused of.
