The Taliban education ministry in Afghanistan has announced the reopening of primary, middle and high schools "for male students only" from tomorrow.

The note, published on the dicastery's Facebook page, is aimed at students of public and private institutions and only male teachers, while there is no reference to the reopening of schools for girls and girls, who are denied one of the rights fundamental.

This announcement "is contrary to what the Taliban had said so far and contradicts the first verse of our Prophet, which is aimed at both boys and girls," commented on Twitter the former vice president of the Afghan parliament, Fawzia Koofi, a well-known activist for women's rights.

The news is coupled with the closure of the Ministry for Women's Affairs: on the building in Kabul that housed the department, the workers would have placed the new sign of the ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

In recent days, the Islamic militia government announced that sport would be banned for women because "they may have to face situations where their face or body is not covered. Islam does not allow women to be seen this way", explained the deputy head of the Culture Commission, Ahmadullah Wasiq.

Following this decision, the players of the women's national football team and their families (115 people in total) fled to Pakistan .
