"I summoned the Iranian ambassador to show him Italy's indignation and concern about what is happening in the country."

This was announced by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on the sidelines of the convocation of the Iranian ambassador-designate Mohammad Reza Sabouri at the Farnesina.

“I recalled that it is not a matter of public order to kill a 12-year-old girl , a 14-year-old girl or a 17-year-old boy . It has nothing to do with the protection of the country's national security», added Tajani, referring to the harsh repression of the Tehran regime against the thousands of people who since September, on the wave of bewilderment and anger over the killing of Mahsa Amini , continue to take to the streets demanding greater rights and freedoms, for women and beyond.

"We hope – concluded the minister after the conversation – that Iran responds positively to Italy's request".
