The European Union and Canada will receive Donald Trump's letters on tariffs today. The US president himself stated this in an NBC interview, later adding in a letter published in Truth that the tariffs for Canada will be 35%. "All the remaining countries, those who have not received the letters on tariffs, will pay: whether it's 15% or 20%," he said.

Trump then announced that he would make a "major statement" on Russia on Monday, reiterating that he was "disappointed with Moscow, but we'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks." The US president also stated that he expected the Senate to approve the measure imposing tougher sanctions on Russia: "It allows the president to do what he wants. In other words, it's my option if I want to use it."

The 35% tariff will not apply to goods compliant with the U.S.-Canada-Mexico Free Trade Agreement, for which the existing exemption remains, a White House official explained. Trump had previously applied 25% tariffs to non-USMCA goods, as the free trade agreement is known, but now—as certified in the letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney—the tariffs will rise to 35% starting August 1 .
