The Russian probe Luna-25 crashed on the Moon. This was announced by the Moscow-based space agency Roscosmos.

The spacecraft, the first launched by Russia to Earth's satellite since 1976, crashed following an accident during a maneuver before its moon landing.

"Around 14:57" yesterday, "communications with Luna-25 were cut off," the Russian agency said in a statement. "According to the preliminary results" of the investigation, the device "ceased to exist following of a collision with the lunar surface,” added Roscosmos.
