Vladimir Putin has announced a ceasefire with Ukraine for Orthodox Easter, which falls over the weekend, state media reported, citing the Kremlin. The truce will begin at 4:00 PM local time (3:00 PM Italian time) on Saturday, April 11, and will last until midnight the following day.

Moscow, TASS reports citing the Russian presidency, expects Ukraine to follow the example of the truce declared by the Kremlin.

The news of the Easter truce is a sign of easing tensions, at a time when trilateral negotiations between Washington, Kiev, and Moscow are expected to resume shortly. This, at least, is Zelensky's assessment. In an interview with RAI, he also called on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to make her "important" voice heard in order to unlock the €90 billion EU aid package for Kiev.
