The international arrest warrants issued in 2019 by the Supreme Court against former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and three of his councilors "are still in force".

This is what the Spanish Constitutional Court explains in a press release.

With this resolution, unanimously adopted by the Court of Cassation, the appeal presented by the defense of the MEP, Toni Comin, Clara Ponsatì and Luis Puig, politicians sought by the Spanish justice after the attempt to secession of Catalonia in 2017 and who since then they live abroad.

Yesterday the Sassari Court of Appeal denied the extradition of the former Catalan president, who in recent days had been arrested in Alghero and spent a night in the Bancali prison.

"The game is suspended and we have to wait for the decisions of the European Court of Justice, the proceedings here in Sassari against Carles Puigdemont will be able to resume only after those decisions are final", explained the defense lawyer Agostinangelo Marras.
