Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva underwent surgery for an "intracranial hemorrhage." According to the medical bulletin, he was initially admitted to Brasilia for a diagnostic test after feeling unwell with a severe headache.

The MRI revealed an intracranial hemorrhage due to the bad fall he suffered on October 19, at home, when he slipped and hit the back of his head in the toilet . The president was then transferred to the São Paulo unit where he underwent a craniotomy to drain a hematoma . According to the statement, the surgery went well and Lula is being monitored in an intensive care bed.

According to Roberto Kalil Filho, personal physician of the president who returned to power in 2023 and a possible candidate in 2026 , he is "lucid and already speaking". He should return to Brasilia at the beginning of next week, provided that "everything goes well" in his recovery process. He will have to remain in intensive care for 48 hours, doctors at the Sírio-Libanese hospital where he was operated said.

Vice President Geraldo Alckmin - who has already canceled his schedule in San Carlos, inland from Sao Paulo - will be in Brasilia today to replace him in official commitments, including the planned meeting with the Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico.
