Emmanuel Macron reapplies for the Elysée.

The French president this evening officially announced with a letter to the regional press his candidacy for the presidential elections, which was already in the air, with a "Letter to the French".

It asks citizens for trust "for a unique French and European response to the challenges of the century".

The deadline for announcing the candidacies is set for tomorrow at 6 pm. The elections will be held on 10 April, with a possible ballot set for 24 April.

In the letter Macron, after having listed the successes and challenges missed in these five years, writes that he is running "to defend our values threatened by the upheavals of the world".

"Make no mistake", is the invitation of the president in office, "one must not respond to these challenges by turning in on oneself or cultivating nostalgia, it is by looking at the present with humility and lucidity and not giving up audacity, will and taste for the future that we will be successful ".

"The crux - he continues - is to build our children's France, not to put the one of our childhood back on its feet." Much space is dedicated to "economic strength", essential for maintaining "independence". And then there are the issues of security and health care ones that have dominated the last two years of the pandemic.

“I won't be able to run the campaign I wanted due to the general context,” Macron warns, however promising that he will “explain” his project. Then he concludes: “Together, we can make this time of crisis the starting point for a new French and European era. With you. For you, For all of us ".
