A second death sentence was carried out in Iran this morning . The executed is Majidreza Rahnavard, accused of killing two Basiji, members of the paramilitary force founded by Ayatollah Khomeini, during the protests .

According to the judiciary news agency, he was convicted of "muharebeh" (the "war against God") of stabbing to death Hossein Zeinalzadeh and Danial Rezazadeh , and wounding four other Basiji in Mashhad, Khorasan province Razavi, last November 17, as part of the revolt that has been going on since September 16, after the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, the young woman who, according to the authorities, had worn the hijab "improperly".

Human rights activists report that Rhanavard was severely beaten during detention, so much so that he suffered a broken arm during his arrest . He was later exposed on state TV confessing to the murders, under pressure from the authorities.

Another protester, Mohsen Shekari, was hanged last Thursday: he too was accused of "muharebeh" for participating in a roadblock and injuring a Basiji during the protests.
