Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, visiting China, met President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

"There is growing insecurity at an international level and China is inevitably a very important interlocutor to address all these dynamics starting from their respective points of view to think together about how to guarantee stability, peace and free trade", said the president of the Council after the conversation with the leader of the People's Republic. Adding: «Italy can play an important role in the attempt to create trade relations between China and the EU that are as balanced as possible».

For his part, Xi explained that China is willing to collaborate with Italy "to promote the optimization and improvement of traditional cooperation in economic and trade investment, industrial production, technological innovation and third-party markets, as well as to explore cooperation in emerging areas such as electric vehicles and artificial intelligence."

Xi also assured that Beijing "welcomes Italian companies investing in China and is willing to import more high-quality Italian products."

At the center of the face-to-face meeting - which lasted 90 minutes - were also the major international dossiers, from the war in Ukraine to the risks of a further worsening of the situation in the Middle East, passing through the tensions in the Indo-Pacific area.
