Turkish authorities lost radar contact with a Falcon carrying five people, including Libyan Army Chief of Staff General Mohammed Al-Haddad, after takeoff from Ankara. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the news on X.

The plane was headed to Tripoli, but "contact was lost at 8:52 p.m." local time, the minister added, as quoted by the Hurriyet newspaper website.

Shortly thereafter, the news broke: the private jet had crashed into a hill shortly after takeoff. On board, in addition to Al-Haddad—who had met with Turkish military generals in Ankara—were four other people. Tripoli Prime Minister Abdul Amid Dheibeh told Al Jazeera that it was a "tragic accident."
