An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale was recorded in New Jersey, with the tremors also being felt in New York City.

After the earthquake, a damage assessment began, while the US aviation authorities decided to temporarily block John Fitzgerald Kennedy airport in New York and Newark airport in New Jersey.

According to the New York Fire Department, there were no significant reports of damage to the buildings.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the town of Lebanon, New Jersey.

President Joe Biden - the American authorities say - "has been informed of the incident" and is following the evolution of the situation.
