Zedda, Manfredi and the Sardinian mayors met in Cagliari: "The value of municipalities must be reaffirmed."
The mayor of the capital and that of Naples meet with local administrationsA meeting with local administrators , linked to the value of municipalities in the country's system. This was organized this morning at the Palazzo Regio in Cagliari on the occasion of the visit of the national president of ANCI, Gaetano Manfredi , who, in his capacity as mayor of Naples, is attending the preliminary regatta of the America's Cup. He was joined by the mayor of Cagliari, Massimo Zedda, to do the honors, and the president of ANCI Sardegna, Daniela Falconi , along with numerous councilors and several mayors of the island.
"We have a dramatic situation in Sardinia: a staff shortage ," Zedda explains. The Municipality of Cagliari, for example, has dropped from 2,500 employees in the early 2000s to just over a thousand today. Despite millions of euros in hiring efforts, many choose to apply for other institutions' positions as well."
"We need to restore the centrality of the role of municipalities as the true territorial management body and the true provider of services to citizens," Manfredi said. "If we don't have the means to do so, both financially and with regulatory tools, it's clear that ultimately the people who pay the price for this shortcoming are the citizens of our communities."
"We need to make it clear how central municipalities are in providing services: we can't let them become the regional or state CAFs," Falconi emphasizes. "They must use resources to create new and better services for citizens. This is a battle all of us mayors must fight to restore dignity to our work."
