With a detailed order read in the courtroom this morning, the single judge of the Nuoro court Filippo Orani rejected the request for an eight-month plea bargain advanced by Luciano Carroni , trade unionist and former traffic policeman, accused of having provoked «through negligence, imprudence and violation of the rules against accidents at work» the death of Mario Sini, a 66-year-old worker engaged in some renovations in his home .

A request that Carroni had made with his defender, the lawyer Maurizio Scarparo, for the reissue within the terms in the light of the Cartabia reform. A decision that the lawyer explained was dictated by the need to close a tragic story for all the parties, with the awareness of resolving all the issues elsewhere . However , Judge Orani ruled that the request was inadmissible .

Today the opening of the trial, with the first witnesses who will parade in the courtroom in May. For the prosecution, represented by prosecutor Riccardo Belfiori, Carroni, in April two years ago, had instructed the victim to carry out maintenance work on the flue, masonry and painting the facade of his home in via Gavino Lai in Nuoro, despite Sini lacking qualifications and skills and not registered with the Chamber of Commerce .

The scaffolding used for the work was not up to standard and had overturned causing the worker to fall from a height of 7 metres: a fatal flight . Carroni is charged with the crime of manslaughter: he would have violated various rules for the prevention of accidents at work by not verifying the worker's professional suitability or if he was using adequate tools and scaffolding. Sini's relatives filed a civil action with the lawyers Francesco Lai and Piera Pittalis.
