Wearable sensors , which will help in risk assessment for workers over 50, with physically demanding tasks : coordinating the work of the University of Cagliari is a young researcher from the department of mechanical, chemical and materials engineering.

Her name is Micaela Porta , and her study was chosen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, among the many proposed by her under 40 colleagues in the "Health and Life Sciences" area. The research will be developed in collaboration with the "Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University" : it is in fact part of a three-year program of scientific and technological cooperation between Italy and the United States.

«In the future, this approach», Dr. Porta explains, speaking of her study, «could effectively support the identification of risky working conditions, for which the necessary adoption of ergonomic interventions should be foreseen . For example, with the redesign of the work task, of the operating methods or with the use of assistive tools such as exoskeletons, in order to reduce physical effort and protect the health of the worker". The Ministry has assigned a total funding of 250 thousand euros .
