The sentence, strictly political, sounds like this: "On the water emergency, the Region continues not to plan" . Directly or through the controlled Enas, the Sardinian Water Authority. "And in the meantime thousands and thousands of cubic meters end up in the sea , while on the announced investment of 70 million in infrastructure we do not know of a single work". Gavino Zirattu, the president of Anbi Sardegna, the association that brings together the Land Reclamation Consortia, speaks with the tone of someone who has been repeating these same things for years. But the Sardinian Council does not turn the other cheek or feel accused. "From Anbi we have never received an invitation to talk about these problems", replies Antonio Piu, the Avs councilor for Public Works.

From the Land Reclamation Consortia – and Zirattu also chairs the Nurra one – the alarm is clear: «In theory, the irrigation season begins on April 1st, even though we now guarantee water to the countryside all year round. But without precise indications on the availability of the resource, it is difficult to decide how to make the land profitable or how to continue to do so for yet another season ».

Piu adds: «It is the Ministry of Infrastructure that sets the limit of the reservoirs , we are not the ones who decide it. Nobody throws water away – the assessor underlines -. If anything, we stick to strict rules established at a national level for safety reasons».

THE DATA – As far as the data is concerned, it is enough to analyze the overall picture to realize that Sardinia has a significant reservoir capacity , with almost two billion cubic meters of water, one billion and 824 thousand to be precise , with 33 dams acting as storage tanks from north to south of the island. The data as of January 31, the last official survey, does not leave much room for celebration: in the Sardinian dams there are "just" 906 million cubic meters of water for multi-sector uses, from drinking water to agriculture, from industry to crafts. And the comparison with last season certainly does not bode well. Comparing the same periods of the year , a deficit emerges between 2025 and the same month of January 2024 : last year the dams had reached a level of 52.54% of the reservoir capacity, while this year the figure is even more serious, with 49.68% as of January 31, 2025.
