The pensioner who was seriously burned while trying to set fire to an ant nest remains under close medical observation.
The man is hospitalized in the burns unit of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari following the accident that occurred Thursday evening on the grounds of a house in Simaxis.
The pensioner had decided to eliminate an ant nest by setting it on fire, and he allegedly doused it with alcohol. A sudden gust of wind apparently fanned the flames, which engulfed him in the face and chest.
The family members responded immediately by calling 118. The rescue team, having assessed the severity of the burns, decided to arrange an emergency air ambulance transfer, which took him to the Sassari hospital.
