A point in their favor in their battle against easements: this is how the antimilitarists of A Foras consider the presentation of the Vinca (Environmental Impact Assessment) request by the Army to be able to carry out exercises inside the Teulada Polygon.
A process never undertaken in 70 years, which will have to evaluate the impact of large fire maneuvers on environmentally protected sites, started after the committee's initiatives.
"In the summer of 2023, A Foras began studying the possibility of legal action against the military exercises that have been carried out in total illegality for 70 years," reads a note, "following the example of the Apulian environmental associations that obtained the blocking of military exercises carried out in the SIC area without any environmental impact assessment."
A Foras has «presented two appeals to the TAR against the calendar of exercises, in 2023 and 2024, thanks to the association Gruppo di Intervento Giuridico and the lawyer Melis Costa (who took charge of signing the appeal), and to the lawyers Pubusa and Lai who intervened in the appeal on behalf of A Foras».
The judges of the administrative court have not yet expressed their opinion on the merits, " but for the first time in 70 years the Army has presented the documentation to the regional offices to obtain the Vinca. Also thanks to the insistence of the civilian members of Comipa, the Italian army cannot continue to operate in total illegality".
The antimilitarists are ready to "present observations in this proceeding, since the documentation presented by the Army seems very incomplete, but what we are interested in emphasizing now is that the Ministry of Defense can no longer behave as if it were the absolute master. We will never again allow our land to be used as a colony and we will fight with all the means at our disposal to achieve our objectives: stop military exercises, close the bases, reclaim the firing ranges with adequate compensation for the populations affected."
