News coming for the works in the historic Velodrome of Quartu Sant'Elena .

After the approval of the executive project, the time has come for the pre-operational phase which provides for the launch of the open procedure and the sending of invitations to 5 operators present on the Sardegna Cat platform. « Ten days foreseen for the completion of the selection , then we will proceed with the awarding of the works , whose executive timing is expected to be 30 weeks. The facility will be refurbished and can be used for both national and international competitions, according to current legislation», explains the Councilor for Public Works Antonio Conti.

The approval of the Giunta's resolution came a month ago with the go-ahead for the 1 million and 55 thousand euro project. The funds used are those granted within the Pact for the development of the Metropolitan City as part of the Development and Cohesion Fund for the period 2014-20. The turning point for the historic Velodrome in Quartese came after years of bureaucratic stalemate , and following the decision of the offices to proceed with an incremental evaluation of the basic costs of the updates recorded in the meantime by the Regional Price List. The increase in expenditure amounted to 105 thousand euros.

The velodrome, even if part of an area on the edge of Quartu Sant'Elena, remains one of the few sports facilities dedicated to cycling within the wider area, which includes the entire city of Cagliari. The Project also embraces the functional recovery of the tracks , the reconstruction of the grandstands , the creation of specific stations dedicated to disabled spectators , the recovery of the changing rooms and the infirmary. Finally, the renovation of the bathrooms, the press box and the upgrading of the partially compromised electrical systems are planned.
