One of the largest industrial areas in Italy, Porto Torres is destined to evolve over time and accommodate services and businesses complementary to existing production activities, particularly food and beverage outlets, artisanal and technical-scientific laboratories, commercial and industrial warehouses, and sports facilities and equipment.
The assembly of the Sassari Provincial Industrial Consortium approved the amendment to the Technical Implementation Standards (NTA) of the Territorial Master Plan, a step that will enable the creation of tourism-accommodation, management, commercial, and social-healthcare services . This important amendment was adopted on September 19, marking a step forward in the modernization and competitiveness of the region.
The current Master Plan, dating back to the 1960s, was conceived for an outdated and outdated economic context: that of a petrochemical hub based exclusively on industrial activities, now largely abandoned, partly concentrated on the waterfront near the "Asi pier", covering approximately 35 hectares. These areas are occupied by abandoned buildings, often owned by bankrupt companies, which stand on uncharacterized and reclaimed land, and therefore not immediately usable. The amendment instead responds to the current needs of the area and aligns with the strategic objectives defined in the 2018 Industrial Reconversion and Redevelopment Project (PRRI) and the 2021 strategic document for North-West Sardinia .
The proposal will now be submitted to the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and, finally, to final approval by the Region .
"This variant represents a turning point for our industrial areas," said Simona Fois, president of the Industrial Consortium. "Our goal is to move beyond the idea of areas solely dedicated to production, transforming them into true hubs where businesses can grow and find a comprehensive ecosystem of services."
A new production hub that makes room for shipbuilding and activities related to the maritime economy . "This update," he continued, "is not a simple bureaucratic act, but a concrete demonstration of how the Consortium operates in full synergy with the vision shared by all the stakeholders in our region, such as the Metropolitan Network, the Province of Sassari, the Chamber of Commerce, and the social partners. We have achieved this with a new approach that takes into account changing needs and strategic sectors such as green chemistry, the bioeconomy, the circular economy, and renewable energy, also including supply chains related to the maritime economy, given that the Consortium overlooks one of our island's main ports."
"The new regulations," concludes President Fois, "will allow for greater flexibility and a better location selection, favoring not only existing businesses but also the establishment of new businesses with high growth potential. This is an important step for the economic future of Northwest Sardinia, a key step towards building a more resilient and innovative economy."
