The thieves struck during the night: they entered the Democratic Party headquarters on Via Emilia in Cagliari, damaging several doors and furnishings, and then made off with around a thousand euros. The money, kept in a safe, had been collected through recent membership drives.

The break-in was discovered this morning and reported to the police, who conducted an inspection, including forensic specialists, looking for any traces left by the thieves. "We are saddened by what happened," commented the party's regional secretary, Piero Comandini. "An incident unrelated to any political connection. It's unfortunate to have ended up in the sights of some criminals looking for a quick buck."

The Sardinian Democratic Party headquarters was the target of another vandalism raid last September: furniture, doors, and windows were damaged. DIGOS officers have launched an investigation into the incident.
