Officials from the Cagliari Customs Office, in collaboration with the Air and Naval Operations Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, seized a pleasure yacht, flying a non-EU flag and owned by a Chilean citizen, valued at €1.5 million.
Based on the investigations, the vessel had exceeded the time allowed for its stay in European Union waters to benefit from the temporary admission customs regime, which provides for exemption from border duties.
The seizure occurred in June and, following the assessment issued by the Customs Office, the owner paid the evaded duties, regularizing his tax position.
The total recovery of the duties due, consisting of import VAT, related accrued interest, and a penalty, amounts to approximately €200,000.
