Cagliari takes to the streets for the Transgender Day of Remembrance , the international day to remember the victims of transphobic hatred .

Dozens of people gathered in the central Piazza Garibaldi , with a torch in hand, to read the names and stories of the victims killed and raped.

«It is sad - explain the organizers (many local associations active in the defense of civil rights took part in the demonstration) - to note that Italy is one of the European countries where there is one of the highest numbers of hate crimes against transgender people. Unfortunately still today, and above all today, being a transgender person in Italy is the cause of numerous forms of discrimination and violence that people often have to face alone".

Each lit light was dedicated to a victim : «So that their deaths are not just a number and their names are not forgotten».
