The alarm has been raised on the coasts of Siniscola, where the analyses carried out yesterday by Arpas in the waters of the beach of La Torre in Santa Lucia have detected levels of Escherichia Coli well above the legal limits. According to the data, the recorded value was 1,091 units per 100 milliliters, more than double the maximum limit allowed, set at 500 units/100ml.
Arpas urgently forwarded the results to Mayor Gianluigi Farris , who immediately signed an ordinance temporarily banning bathing in the area concerned.
"We are trying to understand what happened," the mayor said. " The city's technicians and the police force are checking for any unauthorized spills or other environmental issues that may have caused the limits to be exceeded."
In the meantime, the municipal administration invites citizens and tourists to respect the ban, which will remain in force until new investigations confirm the return to normality . Arpas will carry out new samplings in the coming days.
