There is a first reconstruction of the train derailment that occurred this morning in Settimo San Pietro .

The convoy - with two wagons - left Cagliari headed for Mandas. Having reached the San Gottardo station in Monserrato, it continued with a few passengers on board (and with the staff consisting of a train driver, a train conductor and escort personnel) towards Settimo San Pietro where the "V" tracks extend. Here the detour was planned to continue towards Soleminis and Dolianova and from there towards the arrival station.

However, only the first carriage entered the new track correctly. The second, for reasons being ascertained by the Arst technicians, went off the track, fortunately while proceeding at walking pace. The stop was immediate: the carriage, although off the track, did not tilt or overturn and the passengers remained unharmed.

For them it was just a bit of a scare, while there were disruptions to train traffic, with the station remaining closed until the afternoon in both directions.

A specialized company then put the convoy back on track, bringing the derailed carriage back onto the track. The passengers on board instead left on a bus made available by Arst itself. An internal investigation will now establish the cause of the incident.

An internal commission of inquiry will establish the dynamics of the accident, the causes and any responsibilities. "We don't know the exact cause," said engineer Carlo Poledrini, general director of Arst, who immediately arrived at the scene of the accident. The mayor of Settimo Gigi Puddu was also on site: «What matters most is that no one was injured», his words.
