The vigil in memory of Patrick Zola, 14, and Ythan Romano, 15, the two boys who died yesterday in the collapse of a ruined building in via Dessanay, ended in the parish of San Domenico Savio in Nuoro.

The two teenagers were inseparable friends and classmates, they attended eighth grade in Biscollai. They often went to the oratory, especially Patrick - of Polish origins, adopted son of a doctor and a farmer - he was at home, there wasn't a day that he didn't spend in the oratory. Both lived near the parish. And the friends can't rest now.

The investigation

The Nuoro Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the tragedy: prosecutor Riccardo Belfiori, who arrived on site immediately after the events, is gathering every useful element to reconstruct the dynamics of the event and to ascertain any responsibilities. In the next few hours, the Nuoro Flying Squad will hear from the boy who was with the two victims outside the ruin and who immediately called a friend of their age. She then called 112, with the operators immediately alerting 118.

The only witness

The boy, who appears to be the only witness to the tragedy, could help investigators understand where the two boys were at the exact moment of the collapse : whether on the ground floor, on the first floor or on the roof of the farmhouse. According to an initial reconstruction, the investigators were on the first floor of the ruin , where blood stains from the two boys were found. 5 fire engines from the Nuoro provincial command and 14 men immediately arrived on site and dug through the rubble to recover the two bodies. The area was flown over by the drones of the remotely piloted aircraft system (RPA), requested by the regional directorate of the Fire Brigade, a reconnaissance system to acquire images and videos useful for the investigations of the Prosecutor's Office. When the children were identified, the 118 doctors who arrived at the scene of the accident with several ambulances were unable to do anything but confirm their death.

The failure

The reason why the farmhouse collapsed at the moment remains to be ascertained, but it is very likely that it occurred following the rains of recent days . The building, abandoned for decades, is located about fifty meters from the parish of San Domenico Savio, managed by the Salesians, and was often the place where the children took refuge, despite the warning of the parish priest Don Stefano Paba and the nuns of the parish, who continually repeated that this was a dangerous farmhouse .

The autopsy

Meanwhile, the autopsy has already been arranged: the coroner Matteo Nioi will carry it out at the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro. Prosecutor Riccardo Belfiori, in charge of the investigations, is also trying to understand whether there is any responsibility for the abandonment and neglect of the area, which has been seized since yesterday evening by the judiciary and, according to the first inspections, not forbidden to enter. of other people despite the danger of the ruin. The land on which the farmhouse was built is said to be owned by several heirs.
