It was a chaotic morning on the Quartu coast this morning. Without warning, Via Serchio, the road leading to the Capitana port and the Sighientu Hotel, was closed to traffic.

One of the companies hired by Enel had to carry out asphalt repairs after some work, and so, much to the relief of the holidaymakers, not one but both lanes were closed to traffic, making access off-limits in both directions.

Amid the general outrage, some people still passed through to reach the hotel, sinking into the freshly laid tar, and some soaked the tires of their scooters.

A situation that has also greatly annoyed the Municipality. "Enel has begun road resurfacing work on Via Serchio without any authorization from the administration," a statement reads. "Without considering the importance of the project, it is paradoxical, to say the least, that the company has unilaterally decided to begin the road-milling work without contacting the Municipality and without considering the large influx of residents and tourists who visit the affected area at this time of year."

In light of this, "action was taken to immediately halt the work, and the municipal administration reserves the right to take appropriate measures following the damage caused to the productive fabric and also to Quartu's image."
