One year's imprisonment .

This is the sentence imposed on the Lombard motorist Francesco Orio for the road accident that cost the lives of two people in August 2018 .

The investigating judge of the Tempio Court held Orio (53 years old) responsible for the deaths of Samuel Laport and Yonnel Ponton, in their early thirties, French, run over and killed on Provincial Road 59 , the road that connects Olbia to the Costa Smeralda and Porto Rotondo.

Orio was driving his Fiat Freemont, and, according to the reconstruction of the Carabinieri, he overwhelmed the transalpine tourists who were on the roadway. The public prosecutor had asked for Orio to be acquitted , arguing that the two French tourists were on the road and that the driver from Lecco could not have avoided the impact .

Samuel Laport and Yonnel Ponton (from Échirolles, Isère department, arrondissement of Grenoble) had spent a night in a disco and had gotten out of the taxi, which was taking them home, to talk. Orio has always claimed not to have seen them , the accident occurred at dawn on August 30, 2018.
