Tourist flows and occupancy rates of accommodation facilities increased significantly in May in the north-west of the island , so much so that they resembled summer numbers.

Federalberghi conducted an analysis based on a sample involving a third of the registered facilities, highlighting a clear growth: room occupancy reached 71.78%, a significant leap compared to last year's 64.35% .

Driving growth is a massive international presence , accounting for 74.88% of total visitors, with Poland, Switzerland, France, and Germany as the main markets. The driving force behind the region is Alghero, which has a room occupancy rate of 78.12%, compared to 69.23% in May 2025 .

According to the association , the sporting events and demonstrations organised in the Catalan city proved to be decisive, generating an estimated increase of nine percentage points .

The Gulf of Asinara also performed well, where room occupancy rose from 56% to 69.91%, with a share of foreigners equal to 57% .

Stefano Visconti, president of Federalberghi-Confcommercio Nord Ovest, said : "The month of May brings occupancy rates increasingly similar to those of the typical summer months , confirming that the attempt to create seasons other than summer is achievable. This process goes hand in hand with the growth of Alghero Airport, which confirms its strategic role as a major infrastructure for the entire Northwest and central Sardinia."

The goal now is to consolidate the late autumn and late winter periods as a new tourist season: "We will achieve this thanks to the North West Pact project between municipalities, the Chamber of Commerce, airports, and trade associations. This is a concrete step for a fund that will invest in territorial promotion through airlines for the benefit of all of northern Sardinia."
