Torpè, the mayor Sanna on the gas deposit: "Never given the green light to the plant"

What was supposed to be an appointment with journalists turned into a heated confrontation.

Yesterday morning the mayor of Torpè, Martino Sanna , called a press conference to explain the position of the municipal administration regarding the development of the dispute over the highly contested Istrumpadoglios gas storage facility.

The meeting was attended by about twenty members of the spontaneous committee of citizens , created precisely to protest against the choice of the site by Medea-Italgas for the construction of the energy supply structure for the country's gas network, transforming the event in a heated discussion , with a back and forth from the mayor and citizens who accuse him of having done nothing to block the work that is now under construction.

Martino Sanna defending his work declared among other things that "the director of the Istrumpadoglios site has forbidden an official of our technical office, accompanied by the traffic police, to enter the site to carry out a check".

"As a municipal administration we have never indicated the Istrumpadoglios area to Medea for the construction of the storage infrastructure - specified the mayor - as well as the municipal administration we have never given the green light and our consent for the construction of the work on that site. On the contrary, we have proposed other areas and we are still willing to find new ones if Medea is interested in meeting the needs of the residents of Istrumpadoglios, moving the warehouse to a new area ".

"One thing are the political choices of a municipal administration or a majority of it - he added - another are the acts due to which the administrative offices cannot evade when projects are presented that enjoy all the extra municipal authorizations and that satisfy the requests provided for by current legislation. Those who confuse the two are wrong because they are different roles that must always be kept distinct. This is why I repeat that, as a municipal administration, we have never agreed on the authorization process for the construction of the Istrumpadoglios deposit ”.
