Two of the flagship products of the Garau dairy in Mandas were awarded at Palazzo Brancaccio in Rome on the occasion of the prestigious Top Italian Food 2024, a national competition that rewards the best Made in Italy food excellence. The products that have obtained the coveted recognition are the Granduca di Mandas and Su Nuraxi pecorino cheeses.

The dairy founded by Antonio Garau in 1880 is the oldest in operation in Sardinia.

«We produce high quality pecorino cheeses and refine and season them exclusively in our very ancient cellars which have been in continuous use for over 140 years», underlines Marina Garau, CEO and sales director of the company. Top Italian Food is promoted by Gambero Rosso, with the aim of rewarding food excellence from all over Italy.

The Granduca di Mandas is a pecorino with a fresh and fruity aroma with strong lactic notes, a delicate flavor even when aged for over 12 months, already awarded in 2022 by Gambero Rosso as the best Sardinian pecorino on the market and in 2023 with the medal of silver World Cheese Awards. Su Nuraxi, produced exclusively with sheep's milk, is instead defined as the king of traditional cheeses due to its ancient origins. The now award-winning Mandas company also deserved congratulations from the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida.
