A barely audible whimper came from a bag abandoned in the grass in Simaxis . Inside, five newborn puppies, still soaked from birth , were stuffed into a bag of kibble and left there, with no chance of survival. When they were found, they were still alive, but in desperate conditions : two died shortly after , while a third is now fighting for his life. He developed severe pneumonia because, shortly after birth, he inhaled organic material that ended up in his airways, compromising his lungs.
They were rescued by Jacopo Fais, a dog trainer, who responded to a report. "He immediately alerted the municipality," says his partner, Simona Delogu, "but we were told they could only care for two puppies." This response raises questions about how emergencies like this are handled. The puppies were transferred to a shelter in Zeddiani, where they are being cared for tirelessly : fed, cared for, and kept warm with blankets provided by volunteers. A network of solidarity has formed around them, with residents donating milk, medicine, and basic necessities.
But all this doesn't erase the gravity of the act. "More attention is needed," Delogu adds, "a census of dogs on farms and a sterilization campaign." Because behind this story lies not only cruelty, but a problem that continues to recur.
